A low-delay transform domain approach to trellis coded quantization

چکیده

In this paper we propose a new transform domain coding technique called transform trellis coded quantization (TTCQ) that is based on the trellis coded quantization technique recently proposed where Ungerboeck’s amplitude modulation trellises and set partitioning ideas are used for source coding. We combine the proposed technique with a transform domain formulation for small frame sizes obtaining a transform domain scheme suitable for low-delay speech coding. We have applied this scheme to the coding of 7 kHz wideband speech, studying its performance for several discrete transforms and comparing it with a predictive version of the trellis coded quantization technique for different bit rates and number of states in the trellis. Dans ce papier nous proposons une nouvelle technique de codage dans un espace transform6 appelee “Transform Trellis Coded Quantization” (TTCQ). Cette technique se base sur la quantification en codage par treillis proposCe ricemment oh les treillis de modulation d’amplitude d’ungerboeck et les idCes de partition d’ensembles sent utilisCs pour effectuer le codage de source. Dans l’approche d&rite dans ce papier nous combinons la technique de quantification en codage par treillis avec une formulation de transformation d’espace pour des trames de largeurs rkduites afin d’obtenir un schCma de codage dans un espace transform6 appropri6 pour le codage de la parole & faible d&i. Nous avons appliquC ce schCma pour le codage de la parole avec une largeur de bande de 7 KHz en Ctudiant sa performance pour diverses transformations disc&es. Nous avons cornpar ce schCma ‘a une version prkdictive de la technique de quantification en codage par treillis pour diffkrents dCbits binaires et diffkrents nombres d’Ctats dans le treillis.
